If you heard something rustling around during the night, don’t be alarmed. It was just the Senate passing what they consider a budget. While we slumbered, they passed something that was supposed to resemble a budget. It does very little to balance the budget.
Instead of making sweeping cuts that are so desperately needed, the “budget” relies on almost $1 trillion in new taxes to attempt to decrease the deficit. The budget barely passed, with a final vote of 50-49. 4 democrats that are up for re-election in upcoming elections that are in highly red states voted against. Otherwise the vote was pretty much on party lines.
I have to agree with Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell: “Although Senate Democrats finally generated a budget after four years, the plan they produced raises taxes, increases spending and debt and never, ever balances. The only good news is that the fiscal path the Democrats laid out in their Budget Resolution won’t become law.”
