Under a bill circulated by Rep. Duey Stroebel, R-Saukville, the minimum age would rise to 57. For police and firefighters, it would increase two years to 52.
People who work in the private sector normally retire at 65 if they retire at all. Times are tough and we all have to pitch in right? That’s the mantra that’s being chanted by the left. If someone works for government why should they get the option of retiring 10 years earlier than you? Do you get paid federal holidays? Do you have a pension and a primo healthcare plan? Most can’t say yes to all of those. As we have seen with most union issues, they think unions should be held to a different standard.
There is no reason that you and I should have to foot the bill to have better conditions than you. There isn’t a huge problem at the moment with the funding of the system, but we can make it cheaper for all of us. We could let people keep more of their own money, because that’s what lowering taxes is. It’s saying you get to keep more of your money, to do with as you please.
We are at a time when taxes are too high and we are spending too much. We need to cut all the fat we can. After all the fat is cut, we have to look at things like this. We need to stop putting unions on a pedestal. They’re not better than us, they don’t deserve better. You’re paying for the guy at the DMV to have a good schedule, and a good pay. You don’t need to pay for him to have an early retirement.
