Lawmakers to take up Scott Walker DNA proposal (Good Intentions Bad Policy)

Madison — Wisconsin lawmakers are set this week to consider Gov. Scott Walker’s plan to take DNA from anyone arrested for a felony and anyone convicted of any crime.

Wisconsin currently collects DNA only from convicted felons and sex offenders. Walker’s executive budget lays out nearly $6 million for the initiative. The money largely would come from an existing $250 surcharge on felony offenders and a new $200 surcharge on misdemeanor offenders.

For starters being arrested for a crime felony or not you don’t forfeit your constitutional rights namely your fourth amendment rights.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

On conviction of a felony you do lose constitutional rights but only on conviction. Not for an arrest. You have to show probable cause to seize anything. Some people may say what’s the big deal if you have done nothing wrong.  Would you let them search your house simply because you got caught speeding?

This goes far beyond searching your house, they are taking a piece of you.  While they always make promises that it will only be used for criminal investigations history shows that the government never keeps those promises.  Putting your DNA in a database will eventually be used for other purposes.  Obamacare is a classic example, your DNA can be used to determine what diseases you may be prone to, you could be denied government jobs because of this, it could be used under Obamacare to determine how much money they will spend on healthcare based on what diseases you are prone to.  Demand probable cause before forfeiting your rights.

Columnist: Too many educators want our kids to hate America

From the EAG

GASTONIA, N.C. – George Mason University professor of economics Walter E. Williams recently penned an excellent column for North Carolina’s Gaston Gazette that might shed some light on why the Boston Marathon bombers hated America, and students across the country are learning to do the same.

Hating AmericaThe suspects – brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev – may have hated America before they allegedly attacked innocent citizens, but Williams points out their attendance at the University of Massachusetts could have helped fuel their hate.

“Maybe they hated our nation before college, but if you want lessons on hating America, college attendance is a good place to start,” Williams wrote. “Let’s take a look at it.”

Williams pointed to University of Hawaii professor Haunani-Kay Trask, who tells his students they “need to think very, very clearly about who the enemy is.

“The enemy is the United States of America and everyone who supports it,” Trask contends.

The rest of the story is at the EAG.

Wisconsin Grassroots Groups Call for Halt to Stewardship Fund Spending

Quote

(Sun Prairie, WI) – Citizens should be asking at least two serious questions of Wisconsin state legislators as the Joint Finance Committee heads into a decision this week on funding for the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund.

How much land should the State of Wisconsin own?

And how great a debt burden should the State of Wisconsin be allowed to impose on taxpayers in order to maintain an ever-longer list of public lands?

Since creating the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund in 1989, the Wisconsin State Legislature has authorized nearly a billion dollars in borrowing to pay for related land purchases and acquired nearly 600,000 acres of property.  Today debt service alone on moneys borrowed to accommodate Stewardship purchases total over $80 million a year. Another $60 million is requested for each year in the governor’s proposed 2013-2015 biennial budget, for continued Stewardship purchases – not counting funds necessary to maintain property already owned. Yet, together, the State of Wisconsin and the U.S. Forest Service already own 3.2 million acres of this state’s land, amounting to a shocking 20 percent of total land area.

Less land on the tax rolls means that both state and local taxes will only continue to increase on Wisconsin families, farms, and businesses as the cost of maintaining public lands increases. It also means significant reduction in the amount of real property available for use in agriculture, forestry, and other types of private industry that result in real jobs.

Common Core Equals Indoctrination

Vicki McKenna had Karen Schroeder founder of “Advocates for Academic Freedom” on her show today and confirms what many of us suspected, common core is indoctrination.

You can listen to the show here while you read an article done by Karen Schroeder.  For years liberals have been pushing that we are a Democracy and that the constitution should reflect the will of a simple majority.  Since many of us have pushed back stating that we are in fact a Constitutional Republic. Knowing this they are redefining republic.  From her article.

The Marketplace Extortion Act

Cnet.com has reported that the Senate has passed the Marketplace extortion act by a 2 to 1 margin.  It is is of little surprise to anyone who the players are pushing for this.  From Cnet

Backers of the bill, including Walmart, Macy’s, and Best Buy, argue that online retailers often do not collect sales taxes at checkout and thus enjoy an unfair competitive advantage over the big-box stores. The Marketplace Fairness Coalition, a group of companies supporting the legislation, says the act would “level the playing field.”

It is of little surprise that these retailers because the Supreme Court has ruled that if you have a physical presence in a state you are required to pay all state taxes due in that state including sales.  Whenever lawmakers use the term “level playing field” your BS meter should spin like a top.  These big box stores already have a mechanism to collect these taxes as they have a physical location in those states but the problem doesn’t end their.  This law violates not only the intent of the commerce clause but violates the constitution itself.

Article 1 Section 9

No Tax or Duty shall be laid on Articles exported from any State.

No Preference shall be given by any Regulation of Commerce or Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another; nor shall Vessels bound to, or from, one State, be obliged to enter, clear, or pay Duties in another.
